The rapid escalation of closures due to Coronavirus has lead to one of the grimiest days in modern professional wrestling. Small indy promotions are struggling to keep going as more and more restrictions are put into play, and even the major companies like WWE & AEW are starting to sweat. Thankfully for wrestling fans, at least those two have ways to keep going into the future. WWE has retreated to their Performance Center, and AEW is going to their home base of Jacksonville, Florida.
AEW Announced This On Twitter
In a long series of tweets from the official AEW account, they explained the following.
This is the best solution for AEW to keep going at this time. They are making their name as the second biggest company going, and they can’t afford to stop. It should also be noted that talent has no obligation to show up. Tony Khan himself has promised no one wold lose their spot or push should they choose to sit these next few shows out.
Blood & Guts Should Still Happen
The following weeks show is also to be relocated, with the venue yet to be announced. This is the episode which has been hyped up for weeks, as they will be doing their own version of the iconic War Games match. They have a little bit to find a new venue, and we won’t be seeing a huge crowd for it, but with this match seemingly being the turning point for AEW, it is one they aren’t keen on losing out on.
Everything in professional wrestling is very unsure right now. Even Wrestlemania is in jeopardy of being pushed back later into the year. It is important to keep that in mind, things could change at a moments notice, and the industry could be put on standby like the NHL & NBA.
Do you think companies like AEW & WWE are foolish to push forward in the midst of a potential pandemic, or is this move simply showing why they are number one? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
