WWE Friday Night SmackDown continues. Our opening bout is the women’s tag team match, Bayley & Sasha Banks facing off with Naomi & Lacey Evans in a direct rematch from last week.
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Naomi & Lacey Evans
They start out with the heels quickly taking the advantage, choking Evans in the ropes. This leads to Naomi pulling Bayley from the ring, getting her with a big heymaker before Sasha clips her from behind. Commercial break. We come back to see Lacey being held down in a side headlock. Apparently they’ve injured Lacey’s ankles, didn’t really see fit to show us the work done on them I suppose. Another glitch appears. Lacey fights her way up and tries to get the tag but Sasha pulls her away. She escapes though, tag to Naomi, she deposits both opponents, corkscrew plancha takes them both out!
Throws Sasha into the ring, Slingshot Splash for a 2 count! Speedball Kicks stopped with a big boot! But a Scorpion Kick from Naomi surprises her, bulldogs her into the second turnbuckle pad! Sunset flip, Bayley has to break up the pin! Lacey fights Bayley out of the ring, Naomi kicks Sasha away in the corner, goes up top, Bayley trips her up on the top rope. Sasha pulls her to the mat and stacks her up for the victory.
Winners: Bayley & Sasha Banks
Yeah… Lacey didn’t pin Bayley and there also wasn’t really any miscommunication that cost the babyfaces and could potentially lead to discontent between them in a No. 1 Contender’s or multi-way situation. So basically this did nothing but reset what was established last week. I suppose Sasha getting the pin does help put her name in the hat though.
This match was also a big victim of the wanton need to interrupt matches with commercial breaks, I think legitimately half of it was off-screen. Probably some key stuff missed.
We then hear from the New Day – of course still represented solely by Kofi Kingston and Big E – backstage who hype up the tag team gauntlet match for later on in the night. Mostly it’s an excuse for Big E to make lewd jokes about their stamina and their ability to go for hours and hours and hours and hours… but basically, they promise victory in the gauntlet and cap it off with the familiar chant of New Day Rocks.
