The work week is finally over… it’s Friday folks! And that means we have another episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, beginning in mere moments! The WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley teams up with Sasha Banks to face off with Naomi and Lacey Evans! That means live results and recaps from the event as it airs, in addition to a preview of everything that’s been announced! With no further ado, let’s get to it!
Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Lacey Evans & Naomi
The WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley once again teams with her long-standing confidante Sasha Banks tonight. Sasha made her return to the show from injury last week in her hometown. This quickly brought about an impromptu tag team match which saw Bayley and Sasha take on Naomi and Lacey Evans, a match which the babyfaces won. Tonight… we’re just getting a straight rematch for some reason. We’ve already had Naomi pin the champion which should surely be enough to setup another title match for her, which makes doing this match again seem a little strange.
My guess is, they’ve either decided against Naomi as a challenger and decided to just do a do-over where Lacey can get the pin, or the intent all along was to have both of them as challengers. Either setting up a three-way (or four-way if you want to keep Sasha involved) or a climactic Contender’s match between Naomi and Lacey at some point between now and Mania. Should be noted that multi-way women’s title matches are very, very common at WrestleMania. The Raw title is set to be a singles bout, as is the NXT Women’s Championship. So the SD variant getting this kinda thing would not be a big surprise.
It’s also possible that if they are doing this multi-way match, a miscommunication could cost the babyface side here, leading to some tension brewing between the two of them. Naomi and Lacey Evans don’t really have any history with each other to speak of as of now, so you’d need to do something like that. So that actually does give you a few ways this could go, but I’m gonna say babyfaces over again.
