At Royal Rumble 2020, the collective wrestling fanbase lost their minds when a familar theme song hit. After 9 years in retirement, Edge was back. His return was rumored for months, but few expected to actually see him come back due to the nature of his injuries. He was ready though, not missing a beat as he dished out spears like it was 2011 again. Since then, he has been in an intense feud with Randy Orton, where they will meet in a Last Man Standing match at Wrestlemania 36. During an interview with Sports Illustarted, he would reveal who helped get him ready in secret.
Edge Trained With The Revival & Beth Phoniex
WWE didn’t want to risk him training at the WWE Performance center, with that often being a quick place to have rumors begin. It was bad enough people say him around the WWE Headquarters, so they took extra precautions with only trusted people involved. “”I talked to Triple H, and I said, ‘I can’t go to a ring anywhere because people will start seeing me. I can’t go to the PC.’ So they sent me a ring. I got a warehouse space, and I set up a ring and basically had my own personal ‘Field of Dreams,’ and I just got in there and got to work. Thankfully, I’m married to another Hall of Famer who can pick up and body slam me, which you can’t say for a lot of wives. The Revival, they both live in Asheville, so they’d come, and they’d get in there with me, and they’d put me through my paces.”
Working with two of the best technical wrestlers and a powerhouse is a great way to ensure you’re ready. It’s a shame we will likely never see Edge work with Revival on TV, as they seem to be on the way out of the company.
Wrestlemania 36 Will Be His True Return Showcase
Despite it now taking place infront of an empty WWE Performance Center, Edge will go to war with Randy Orton in a match that will likely not be for the faint of heart. We will see the old friends attempt to end each others careers, with only man being left standing. Given the medical history of Edge, people are going to have a hard time with this one, but it will prove without a doubt that he is healthy and ready to go again.
