WWE Monday Night Raw begins in the Performance Center to zero fans. Edge opens the show, shows us a vignette of everything that’s gone on thus far. Edge says it’s been a long time coming, back when Randy’s father first introduced him to young Randy. Says they stole the show for the IC title, formed Rated RKO to take out DX, made the same enemies… even found that they owed the most to the same person in Mick Foley.
But one thing Mick taught Edge that Orton clearly never learned was grit. He tells him that he’s an entitled bastard that couldn’t stand knowing that everything he had was handed to him, was jealous knowing that Edge had to work for everything and made it happen. Tells him that when he came back and eliminated him, that’s why he did all this, not out of love but of jealousy. He mentions that when Beth Phoenix came back two weeks ago to give a medical update, what nobody knew is that she was there to retire for him… she didn’t think it was fair that someone had to give a speech about how they were giving up their dream twice. So she was going to say it for him.
Edge says he once pulled Orton out of a hole he never though he’d get out of. But now Orton’s pulled him out of the same hole that he dug. He saved him from making a terrible decision. Because now he couldn’t imagine retiring, he must face Orton.
So he says that if Randy has the guts, he’s challenging him to a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania.
He then made his way. That was an interesting promo. Not having to yell unless appropriate is kinda cool, usually you have no choice but to talk loudly amongst a crowd. Perhaps less by necessity and more psychologically, since they do have microphones in their hands that make them automatically significantly louder but I think naturally one is inclined to try and speak above the crowd. Anyway it’s atleast one thing that’s kind of cool about these empty arena shows, when people speak it does feel a little bit more organic and a little bit more down to earth.
Anyway Becky Lynch is pulling up in a giant semi truck with her face emblazoned on it, her hair turning to fire. It’s a pretty cool nod to the kinda stuff Steve Austin would pull up in here on 3:16 Day.
Now they’re replaying the Men’s Royal Rumble match. Not sure how much of it they’ll show but they are starting from the beginning. I covered this match in pieces but you can see a recap of the end of it right here.
