WWE Friday Night SmackDown is almost over. We have tonight’s match here, with Jeff Hardy taking on King Corbin. In spite of his wishes, they did not get No More Words back, he’s still coming out to the generic Hardyz theme that was just part of a random library they bought back in the late 90s. Before the bell, Corbin jumps Jeff and sends him to the outside, slams him into the barricade. Then rushes back into the ring and goads him back into the ring. Meanwhile Elias is at ringside and apparently doesn’t know what the point of a ring bell is.
King Corbin vs. Jeff Hardy
Corbin distracts himself by yelling at Elias. Jeff takes the fight to Corbin, Inverted Atomic Drop into the leg drop between the legs, basement dropkick for a nearfall! Jeff wants a Twist of Fate, Corbin slams him into the corner, Deep Six for a nearfall. Corbin loudly yells that this was a three count. Stands up and shouts at Elias again, asking why he’s even out here. Elias responds by standing up on the table and strumming his guitar. Off the distraction, Jeff Hardy hits the Twist of Fate which Cole excitedly calls the Twist of Fury twice. Up top, Swanton for the victory.
Winner: Jeff Hardy
Not quite the monumental return Jeff was hoping for, I’m sure, but you do what you gotta do in the circumstances you have, I guess. They’re really just running with making a joke out of this whole situation. Which I kinda get in one sense, it is wacky and awkward by default, you might as well see if you can get some comedy out of it ’cause you’re definitely not getting much drama from it. But at the same time, we are weeks away from WrestleMania and this whole thing could not make this company look any colder, it’s kinda painful to watch. It doesn’t make any of their big angles look particularly significant either.
I dunno, I’m reminded of that time that Raw got snowed in right after the Royal Rumble occurred and they had to fill three hours without even having a ring and when that happened, they seemed to have a lot less trouble making everything seem serious. Of course they did have a lot more people available at that point but still.
