WWE Monday Night Raw rolls on tonight. We get a nice vignette of Rhea Ripley, detailing her history. I believe this same promo may have aired on NXT last week. She went into how when she first came into WWE she was compared to Charlotte a lot in her appearance. Says she went out of her way to change everything about her appearance to stand out more. Wants to prove that she’s the best by beating the best. This of course leads to Charlotte Flair making her way out. There’s a referee here literally just to help her get into the ring.
Charlotte takes up a microphone to ask everyone if they saw that package. Meet Rhea Ripley, she says, the next big thing! Calls her the new shiny toy. Inspiring! Says that package even had her all fired up. So this is what got her confused. Rhea said in order to be the best, she had to beat the best… her. But she also doesn’t want to be Charlotte, she wants to be herself. Tells her not to lose sleep at night because she’s not Charlotte and she’ll never be Charlotte.
She says it’s one thing to stand in an empty stadium and talk about her hopes and her dreams, but it’s another thing entirely to be humbled by the Queen. Caps herself off with a big “Wooooooooo”!
Rhea Ripley’s music hits and out she comes!
Jerry Lawler still doesn’t recognize Ripley’s theme music, incidentally. She makes her way into the ring and says she’s going to explain something to her but Charlotte cuts her off and says we’ve already heard enough from her. Says this is not NXT, this is Monday Night Raw. Amazingly, this gets a pop. Charlotte calls Raw her kingdom. So you are excused. She actually turns her back to her and when she whirls back around, Ripley just punches her right in the face.
Rhea makes her leave as Charlotte smiles, utterly shocked. So I guess the true reason nobody interrupted Becky Lynch forty minutes earlier is because that would’ve been a little too similar to what happened here. Either way, between the vignette and simply punching out Charlotte, I’d say they did a pretty good job of getting Rhea over here. Which is certainly a key thing as a lot of people still haven’t seen much of her and she’s got a big Mania match coming up here.
