WWE Friday Night SmackDown begins on a weird note. There’s a black screen for several seconds. When the intro does begin, it’s with some stutters. Not sure if that’s a genuine glitch resulting from the skeleton crew or if it’s meant to be that hacker dude. I actually dunno. But to open the show proper, Mojo Rawley’s here to introduce his buddy and hassle Michael Cole over not being hype enough. Mojo brings out Rob Gronkowski who enters to hilarious party music. He dances along to it quite adeptly though.
Gronk talks up how long he’s been a fan, notes being in the FCW arena with five people in the stands, he’s been at WrestleMania in front of tens of thousands, now he’s in front of nobody and he’s still hype! His buddy Mojo Rawley tells him he’s here to have his back since the WWE isn’t much like NFL. You can get hit on the field, off the field and everywhere in between.
King Corbin interrupts.
He gets into the ring and tells them to bow down. Rob says they don’t do that. Corbin says Rob’s used to having big shoulder pads protecting him. Not here. Corbin says he’s bigger than him and better than him. Elias interrupts. Corbin complains that Elias is following him everywhere. Elias starts singing, asks if you know how dumb you sound. Lets him know he’ll be taken down and just wishes people were here to see it live. Corbin yells at Elias, Mojo and Rob. Mojo kneels down behind Corbin, Gronk shoves him and he falls. Elias rushes into the ring and tosses Corbin from the ring.
Gronk gets on the mic, says though he’s the host of Mania he doesn’t have the authority to make matches, but he is ADVOCATING that Corbin and Elias have a match at WrestleMania. I suppose that’s fair. The faces all dance in the ring as Corbin looks upset.
Thinking about it, a pretty rough spot to have your first promo here, especially when you’re expected to be high energy. Considering that, Gronk did really well. Everyone did kinda expect him to be a charismatic talker but he pulled off a tricky debut here. Also looks like Mojo will probably be teaming with him atleast to start with, which is certainly a bolster for his career.
