Wrestlemania 36 is going to take place over two nights this year from the WWE Performance Center, and while the card is still forming; two staple matches will not be present. One of the reasons for the two day setup for Wrestlemania is that WWE needs to keep crew smaller, and because of this, there will be no annual Battle Royals at the event.
What Is The Point Of The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royale?
While it has become a fixture of the Wrestlemania preshow, fans have often wondered why WWE insists on having this large scale Battle Royale every year. The obvious answer is to simply get everyone healthy a place on the roster, but the match has no stakes. Winners include Big Show, Cesaro, Matt Hardy, Mojo Rawley & Baron Corbin. With the exception of Corbin, none got a major push after winning the match and its trophy. Mojo Rawley has barely appeared on TV since his win, but will be now gaining a more prominent role as he rides the coattails of WWE signee and close friend Gronk.
If WWE gave the winner a title shot of their choosing for after Wrestlemania, it would add excitement into the dull matchup. Because of this, it’ll be hard to find fans mourning the loss of this match this year. The match needs some fine tuning, but fans will welcome it back regardless next year.
The Wrestlemania Womens Battle Royal Won’t Happen Either
For the same reason as the Andre The Giant Battle Royal not happening, there won’t be one for the women either. With just two iterations in existence (ignoring the mess from Wrestlemania 25), it lacks the even minor prestige of its older brother. The winners have again failed to do much following their wins, with it just serving as a pointless trophy match to get all the women of WWE on the show.
The card is still filling up for the two nights of Wrestlemania, with potential matches like Sami Zayn vs. Daniel Bryan on their way. There will be more than enough action to keep fans satisfied without filling a ring full of midcarders and returning legends like Tatanka.
