At Wrestlemania 36, AJ Styles is set to take on The Undertaker. Over the past few weeks, he has taunted The Deadman, calling him washed up and claiming the only reason he hasn’t retired is that his wife, Michelle McCool is a gold digger. It has made the rivalry very personal, and they are set to have a fight come Wrestlemania. It won’t be in a wrestling match, not a Last Man Standing Match, not even a Casket or Buried Alive match, it will be the first ever Boneyard match. This lead many fans to be confused, but AJ Styles during a stream has cleared up the rules of this new match type.
A Boneyard Match Is A Street Fight… In A Cemetery
A few matches for Wrestlemania 36 were taped outside of the WWE Performance center, and this was one of them. It will be under Street Fight rules, with the added allure of it taking place in a cemetary. Styles indicated that they’re not calling it a Graveyard Match or a Buried Alive Match because of what’s going on around the world with COVID-19, and how that would be rather insensitive given that situation. He also mentioned there will be an open grave, making this a very interesting match. It will be the first of it’s kind, and given the talent of AJ Styles and the aura of the Undertaker, it will be an entertaining affair.
Can AJ Styles Defeat The Undertaker?
With how fired up he has gotten The Undertaker in recent weeks, it will be interesting to see if he is able to back up his words once he has to face the reaper. AJ Styles is one of the best wrestlers in the company, but not one of the best fighters. He is the best inside a ring, not brawling in a graveyard. This puts him in unknown territory, and while it would be similar for Undertaker, he is a brawler at this stage of his career.
With the pre-taped nature of this match, we should have something well edited and exciting, but just don’t expect a wrestling match.
