Why Johnny Why? That is the question NXT fans have been asking themselves ever since Johnny Gargano showed his true colors at NXT Takeover Portland. He would cost Tomasso Ciampa the NXT Championship, and become the most hated man on the brand in the process. After another surprise attack to Ciampa last week, he would sit with NXT’s lead announcer Mauro Ranallo to finally explain his actions.
Johnny Gargano Just Knew
As the interview began, it became clear that Gargano didn’t want to actually explain his actions. He would dance around the question of why he did it, instead focusing on other things. Johnny would butter Mauro up by saying he was the only man in NXT to show up for the premiere of Bipolar Rock n’ Roller and say Mauro is the one telling the stories of NXT.
Mauro wanted answers, and pressed him some more about the ambush on Ciampa. Gargano said he saw in Ciampa’s eyes what he needed to see, and he did what he had to do. Gargano would also dispute the ambush last week being a sneak attack. Gargano yelled he was wearing a powder blue sports coat, he stood out making it anything but a sneak attack.
Letting his mouth get ahead of his brain, Mauro had called him ‘Johnny Turncoat’ which would enrage Gargano once it was brought up. Things would get tense as Gargano got angry and freaked out over this. Mauro fled to avoid things getting physical. No doubt fans will be chanting this at Gargano soon.
Going After Mauro Will Help Him Be Hated
While most NXT fans are already firmly against Gargano, this should sway the stragglers. Mauro is a near universally loved part of NXT, with his commentary elevating matches. With Gargano losing it on Mauro during this interview, more people than ever now want to see Ciampa destroy him in Tampa.
Revenge is coming soon, it is only a matter of time before we will see Ciampa take the fight back to Gargano. Gargano is as ready as anyone can be for an attack from the Psycho Killer, but no one can truly be prepared.
