WrestleMania 36 is soon at hand. I think we’re done with the long intros. Let’s actually not waste any time with this preview.
Last Man Standing: Edge vs. Randy Orton
When Edge made his return at the 2020 Royal Rumble event, it was a magical moment in an era where those are few and far between in WWE. Sure there were rumors abound that Edge was either cleared or on his way to it. And certainly when I saw him spear the ever-loving crap out of Elias that one time during a special appearance, I took note of the fact that it’s something he probably would not have been allowed to do a year prior. Even so, all the talk in the world could not spoil what was a truly incredible return to the ring.
And then the next night, Randy Orton dropped him with an RKO and threatened to end his career resurgence before it truly even got going. He took his own move, the Conchairto and did some seemingly serious damage to his always troublesome surgically repaired neck. Immediately, it became the hottest storyline in the entire company. Edge has been a fantastic babyface and people have been behind him the whole time. Randy Orton was quickly public enemy number one, with his every segment being drowned out with boos for a while.
I can’t say it didn’t have a hitch or two. Actually, I think Matt Hardy coming back the week after taking his own Conchairto was a pretty big mistake that ended up taking away from what Orton had been doing, as he didn’t seem to have near the same heat after that, even being cheered as he RKO’d Edge’s wife Beth Phoenix. Still, Edge’s return was hot and watching the furious Rated R Superstar’s quest for revenge has been a compelling journey to see.
They’ve recounted their lengthy history together, which spans to before Randy Orton was even in training to become a wrestler. They’ve painted a picture of a complex relationship, in which they’ve been the closest of comrades in spite of their devious natures, with Orton arguing that he only ever attacked Edge out of love for him and his family. Now, finally, they face off in a Last Man Standing match, a fittingly brutal stip for this intense feud.
It’s pretty clear where this ends. In fact there’s only one way it can possibly end. And it’s not with an RKO or a Spear. No I think both men will be getting up from those. This started with a One-Man Conchairto and it will end with one as well. Edge must take back the move that he invented, the move Randy used to try and put him out, the move he eventually ended Matt Hardy’s WWE tenure with. Edge will hit that Conchairto and that will be it for this epic saga. Edge to win en route to continuing his big comeback.
