The NXT UK Women’s Division is star studded at the top, but it is important to not overlook the undercard as well. One of the stars of the undercard is the daughter of trainer Robbie Brookside, Xia Brookside. She has been bubbling underneath for a while, itching for a shot at the top prize of the division. On this episode of NXT UK, she would face Amale, the wrestler who caught flack from parents, as she is also a teacher in Germany on top of her wrestling career. Will the second generation superstar be able to knock off ‘French Hope’ Amale?
A Sloppy Performance From Both Ladies
While some might overlook Xia Brookside as someone who has her position in the company due to her father, but she has been working hard to earn her place. She is back from a break from the ring, during which she spent time at the NXT UK Performance Center, honing her craft and becoming more than a high flyer. This training would be put to the test early, as Amale would start quick and grab a wrist lock. Xia would slip out and get caught again. Once she escaped a second time, she would slip under the legs of Amale and trip her up. Amale would pop back up for an awkward looking crossbody from Brookside, for a one count.
Brookside grabbed the arm to keep Amale grounded, but would be countered and an arm wringer would send her shoulder first into the mat. Amale capitalized, with some heavy kicks to the arm and another submission attempt. The pressure would be maintained as they went vertical, with Brookside finally escaping with a snapmare. A jawbreaker and headscissors would get Brookside an opening, and she would hit her finisher ‘The Broken Wings’ (A double foot backbreaker) for a win in an unimpressive match.
Xia Brookside & Amale Need More Work
While this could have simply been an off night for these two ladies, this match was clunky, slow paced and far from exciting. They lost the crowd at Coventry due to a lack of anything interesting, and the best part of the match was it’s short length. They are not in major roles yet for a reason, and this served as a reminder that some in NXT & NXT UK are still rookies who need work. Hopefully if they ever clash again, it is after some more drills in the NXT UK Performance Center. Do you think Xia Brookside will ever match the success of her father?
