The tournament to crown the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion rages on, and both Tony Nese & Drake Maverick find themselves at the bottom of the A-Block. Nese lost to KUSHIDA & Maverick lost to Jake Atlas on last weeks episode, making this match incredibly imporant. With only three matches for each competitor in this tournament, a loss here could remove them from the tournament. They would still be able to play spoiler to influence who moves to the finals, but they won’t become champion. Tony Nese wants to prove he is the best of the Cruiserweights, but Drake Maverick needs a win to save his job following his release from WWE. Which man will leave with a 0-2 record?
Drake Maverick Becomes A Feral Underdog
Maverick would rush in and lock up with Nese, only to be thrown to the mat. He couldn’t outpower The Premier Athlete, so instead tried to trip him up and got a slap the face which sent him into the corner. Nese loudly told the emotional Maverick that he needs to do better, prompting him to rush in only to be slammed back into the corner before beating down Maverick in the corner. The abuse would continue with a kick to the back, as Nese would verbally berate Maverick. Maverick would fight back, but a shot to the throat would drop him instantly. There wasn’t as much fight as we saw from Maverick against Jake Atlas, until he snapped.
Maverick would get fired up, and just unleash all his frustration on Nese. He would launch a flurry of punches sending Nese into the corner, before hitting a perfect basement dropkick. The underdog became feral, and would hit a missle dropkick, and attempt a corner cutter before Nese countered out. Nese would German Suplex Maverick into the corner, and attempt the Running Nese, which the former GM of 205 Live would have scouted. He would hit the corner cutter for a near fall. Following up, he scaled the top rope for a diving elbow, which Nese dodged. A rattled Nese would climb the ropes to attempt the 450 Splash, but Maverick would cut him down and hit a diving bulldog from the top rope to get the win.
Tony Nese Is Eliminated From The Tournament
With this loss, it is impossible for Tony Nese to win the block, as he only has one match left and now two losses. It also means that KUSHIDA vs. Drake Maverick will likely be the match that decides the fate of Maverick in WWE. We saw a different side of Maverick in this match, and he will bring the fight of his life to beat KUSHIDA. Will Drake Maverick reach the finals?
