Another episode of AEW Dynamite is on again here this evening, and it’s the go-home show to AEW Double Or Nothing! Tonight we’ll be seeing a very unique, seemingly first-time-ever meeting between two of the industries’ most storied veterans, as Arn Anderson & Jake Roberts come face to face! You can expect the same kind of live coverage tonight as always, including previews of everything announced in advance! And as usual with Dynamite that accounts for a lot, so let’s get started!
Arn Anderson & Jake Roberts Confrontation
Thus far, we’ve seen Lance Archer brutalize Cody Rhodes’ brother Dustin in the Semi-Finals of the TNT Championship tournament. And we’ve also seen Jake Roberts lay a snake upon the prone body of Cody’s wife Brandi. Even QT Marshall has felt Archer’s wrath and come out of it needing bandages around his ribs. Of course Cody has a lot of established friends, more than most modern wrestlers, but as far as the regulars in AEW go, it’s basically just his manager Arn Anderson left. He’s the only one they haven’t messed with for the sheer sake of getting under Cody’s skin, atleast not yet.
It’s pretty natural then that we have this confrontation here tonight. Not least of which the fact that it’s the two opposing managers of both sides of this major match. Man, that actually feels weird to say. I can’t say I can recall a situation like this in major American wrestling in the past couple of decades. For the longest time, managers in general seemed like a dead art, and just seeing one on a given show was rare. So to have a feud between two men who both have a manager is certainly a throwback all by itself.
And these aren’t just any two managers either. Arn Anderson & Jake Roberts are both legends of the wrestling business, even if they are legends who took very different career paths. Indeed as Arn has highlighted in the lead-up to this, they have never really crossed paths. The only match they’ve been in together was the 1989 Royal Rumble match and they were never in the ring at the same time. So this is seemingly a first-time-ever confrontation between two famed talkers of wrestling’s past. It should be a fun one to witness, but I do worry for what they’re gonna do to Arn…
