The card for WWE Backlash is becoming more and more clear as it approaches, and we know our main event. WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has been on an absolute roll in 2020, having not been handed a single loss. Meanwhile, men like Brock Lesnar, The Big Show, Seth Rollins, Andrade & King Corbin have been left laying on the mat after eating Claymores. You need to have serious confidence to step up to McIntyre as he currently stands, but one man on RAW has confidence to spare. This is Bobby Lashley, who now with his partnership with MVP official is ready to become a main event talent. The match is now official, and at Backlash it will be Lashley vs. McIntyre for the WWE Championship.
Now Where Have We Seen This Before…
While in WWE this is a fairly fresh match-up, fans have had a chance to see this in the past of Impact Wrestling. McIntyre (then Drew Galloway) had defended the Impact Heavyweight Championship against Bobby Lashley in the past, making this familiar terf for them. This also potentially makes this for the first match that has happened for both the Impact & WWE Championships, making it slightly historic. Their previous title match happened at TNA Slammiversary XIV, with Lashley leaving the victor.
This will mean that the chemistry for a great championship match is absolutely there, and we should see McIntyre bring out the absolute best in Lashley, who will get his first WWE Championship match in 13 years.
A Likely Win For Drew McIntyre
While this will be a hard fought battle, it is unlikely to be a loss for McIntyre yet. Lashley has begun his rise to a main event level talent in WWE, but McIntyre is established in his role. If the likes of Lesnar & Rollins couldn’t vanquish McIntyre, Lashley doesn’t stand much chance of changing this on his first try. MVP being at ringside could help the case of Lashley, but it will be hard to visualize the WWE Championship changing hands at Backlash.
We will be seeing both men in their best forms for this match, and perhaps the best Lashley match in WWE history. Are you excited for this match for the WWE Championship? Who do you see leaving as the victor? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
