It is no secret to anyone that professional wrestling is in a poor spot at the moment. The COVID-19 pandemic has essentially shut the business down for all but the biggest companies. You can still find content from WWE, All Elite Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling, as well as other companies from around the globe. Others have completely shut down, like New Japan Pro Wrestling who have not run an event since February. Everyone has reacted differently, with WWE most notably having made serious cuts to their roster. They are an outlier here, with most companies taking care of their employees. One big example of this is Impact Wrestling, which Impact Tag Team Champion Ethan Page has made clear.
Impact Wrestling Takes Care Of Their Own
Speaking on the Wrestling Inc Daily Podcast, Ethan Page spoke about how good of care that Impact has been taking care of their employees. “Personally, I have nothing but good things to say during this entire thing. We had three events cancelled that we got paid for and we didn’t even have to leave the house. In my contract it says if I don’t perform, I don’t get paid. But I didn’t perform and they still paid me. That just shows a different character than most companies in this situation and I’ll be happy to pay that forward, maybe even just telling you how good they’re treating us might be able to help them out.”
This has helped Impact Wrestling as they look to regain the trust of fans after a long history of mismanagement through the 2000’s & 2010’s when they were ran by Dixie Carter as Total Nonstop Action.
Ethan Page Has A Crucial Role
Page has been crucial to Impact Wrestling, as his position as one half of the Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions ‘The North’ has made him a focal point in story-lines. From the same interview he had the following to say. “Last week we did end up filming something for Impact that we got a full day’s pay for and it probably took 2-3 hours out of my day. So, they’re going out of the way to make sure that the people are still doing work for them are still being taken care of. It’s almost a work from home situation. We’re stuck in Canada but we’re a big part of the show as tag champions and they’re making sure that we’re still able to be a big part of the show.”
The North have recently become the longest reigning tag team champions in company history, and even notched major victories over Impact Heavyweight Champion Tessa Blanchard.
It is reassuring to know that major companies like Impact Wrestling & New Japan Pro Wrestling are doing what they can too keep their employees safe. Do you think WWE should follow their example? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
