Nikki Bella Reflects On The 2018 Royal Rumble

Nikki Bella Reflects On The 2018 Royal Rumble

In 2018, we saw the first ever Women’s Royal Rumble match. The final two would be Asuka vs. Nikki Bella, the future vs. the past of WWE. They would have a fantastic finishing sequence, but they almost had to change in on the fly.

This is according to Nikki Bella herself from her new book that was co-authored by both Bella Twins, Nikki would speak on one of her last main event performances as a wrestler.

Nikki Bella Recalls Multiple Changes Happening In Rapid Succession

She was excited to work with Asuka in the final spot, as she had never worked with the then undefeated superstar. This added drama as it looked like Nikki would be the first one to give Asuka a taste of defeat as they battled on the apron of the ring, before Asuka would kick the leg of Nikki and cause her to crash to the floor, sending Asuka to Wrestlemania.

This match almost had a different ending, as some men backstage had wanted that finish instead for their match. This lead to Asuka & Nikki being told to change their plans, just 90 minutes before showtime. Due to the language barrier, it was hard but they did come up with something, only to be told they were allowed to do their original finish.

Was Ronda Rousey Responsible For The Women Getting The Main Event

Nikki Bella did not note who it was that complained about the finish, but it was a frustrating experience. There was also complaints about the women main eventing that night, but WWE stood by their choice due to the debut of Ronda Rousey following the match to close the show. Without Ronda being involved, they very well could have been removed from the main event, with the men closing out the show like usual. While Ronda Rousey got some flack from her involvement and how she stole the moment from Asuka’s win with her debut, but her presence elevated the division without doubt, right from the start.

Do you think that a finish should be allowed to be protested for the main event that close to ring time? Who do you think was the one who protested the finish to the women’s match? Should Vince McMahon have put his foot down about this situation? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
