Another episode of AEW Dynamite is on again here this evening, and it’s the go-home show to AEW Double Or Nothing! And we have a little sampling for both of the show’s women’s matches on tap tonight when AEW Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose teams up with Britt Baker to face off against Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander! You can expect the same kind of live coverage tonight as always, including previews of everything announced in advance! And as usual with Dynamite that accounts for a lot, so let’s get started!
Nyla Rose & Britt Baker vs. Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander
As stated above, this is a preview for two of Double or Nothing’s matches. Nyla Rose will be defending the AEW Women’s World Championship at the event against the long-time No. 1 Contender Hikaru Shida. And on the same night, rising heel Britt Baker will go up against the intergalactic Kris Statlander! And that actually makes this a really difficult match to call for me, definitely the hardest one to predict of the night. AEW really doesn’t do stuff like this very often, they’ll generally want to make sure everyone involved in a major PPV match has a winning streak going in. But that’s not possible for this scenario.
It’s one of those things that make you think about the philosophies of these companies. Because if this were a WWE thing, I’d find it a simple call. I expect both the heels to win at Double or Nothing so the law of reverse momentum as well as the law of 50/50 means the faces will be winning here tonight. But I don’t think these rules apply here. If the company were more apt to do DQs or time limit draws, this match would be a very good fit for it. And maybe with no fans in attendance to boo it out of the building, they’ll be less afraid of those kinds of finishes.
But generally speaking we very rarely see any kind of indecisive finish in AEW aside from the various means of flash pins and perhaps that’s the thing I should be predicting on this occasion. On balance, I think the most likely thing is probably Hikaru Shida specifically getting the pin over Britt Baker in some capacity, one last bit of rub to get her to an impressive 10-1 record on the year before her big title shot. With that in mind, Shida & Statlander over.
