AEW Dynamite rolls on, it’s main event time as Cody defends his TNT Championship for the first time, against Jungleboy! Notably MJF and Wardlow are in the crowd for this one.
TNT Championship: Cody (c) vs. Jungleboy
Chain wrestling to begin, Cody with a waistlock takedown! Front facelock, Jungle gets to the ropes for the break. Lock-up, Cody takes him into a side headlock, there’s the takeover… Jungle rolls him to his back for a 1 count but Cody keeps the hold in. Pulls him to his feet, Jungle shoots him off, Cody with a shoulder block! Hits the ropes again, Jungle with a leap frog, step-up rana! Roll-up for 2! But then just covers him again for a 1 count! Chops him into the corner, Cody reverses, big forearm, meaty chop! Knocks him to a seated position. Pulls him up to another corner, wringing the arm, whip reversed… Cody avoids a charge, Jungle leaps at him but Cody catches him out of the air with a powerslam for a 2 count! Then a second 2 count!
Springing stomp to the shin. Kick to the hamstring. Looking for a figure four leglock, and there it is! Jungleboy struggling. Almost gets pinned from this position. Reaching for the ropes, makes it for the break and Cody keeps the hold on for a few seconds! Cody wants a Disaster Kick, Jungle ducks it – Springing Tornado DDT for a nearfall!! Cody rolls to the outside, Jungle hits the ropes, tope suicida! And then back in the ring for a second one but Cody catches him out of the air this time! He slams him into the Gunn Club in the crowd! Commercial break as Cody is manipulating a table…
As we come back, we see Jungleboy struggling on the floor. Cody pursues him, wants a headbutt but Jungle avoids him and Cody headbutts the wall! Jungle gets in the face of MJF who hollers at him, saying he doesn’t deserve a title shot. Jungle asks him how his chest is. MJF rips off his scarf and demands they go at it. As this is going on, Cody is bleeding badly! Jungle goes over and throws him into the ring, Arn Anderson wants Bryce Remsburg to think about calling it… Jungleboy attacks him and goes after the cut with punches!
Seems to regret it for a moment, this allows Cody to fight back, Jungle with an inside cradle for a nearfall, Cody hits a Pump Kick to take him down! Cody pulls him to his feet and whips him but Jungle rebounds right back for a huge clothesline flipping him inside out for a nearfall! Jungle traps both arms, pounding on the cut! Jungleboy goes up top, Cody stops him with a dropkick to the chest! Cody pursues him up there, holds him up for a Delayed Superplex! Narrow nearfall off of that. Cody looking for a figure four leglock, Jungle kicks him off, Cody tries to go up top, Jungleboy pursues him up there.
They’re fighting over the table! Almost… no they both fall right through the table!!! “This Is Awesome” chant from the crowd as they’re both laid out in the splinters. Cody makes his way to his feet! And he’s pulling Jungleboy up as well, takes him into the ring. Cody with a shoulder thrust, sunset flip – but Jungle cradles him for a 2 count! Cody immediately nails a vicious, spiking Cross-Rhodes and that’s the win!
Winner: Cody
I figured that’d be good, I didn’t figure it’d be so violent. Quite the start to this TNT title series.
