Another episode of AEW Dynamite is on tap here this evening! Cody’s quest to defend the TNT Championship every single week continues as tonight he puts the silver and red on the line against Marq Quen of Private Party! As usual there’s plenty announced in advance for Dynamite and the show is but minutes away so let’s get to the previews!
TNT Championship: Cody (c) vs. Marq Quen
Week 2 of Cody’s TNT Championship open challenge was meant to pair Cody up against Rey Fenix. This ended up not coming to fruition as he’s ended up taking longer to be cleared than expected. But this opened up a very unique match to be sure and he is atleast going up against another creative high flier so I imagine the story of the match will be somewhat comparable. Marq Quen of Private Party has quite the unexpected opportunity, as he has a title match here in what is actually his first singles match in AEW. In fact he’s gone on record to say this is his first singles match in three years, which tells you how dedicated to the tag team he and Isiah Kassidy are.
Private Party made a big splash in the early days of Dynamite, upsetting the Young Bucks in the inaugural tag team title tournament. This pretty much made them instant sensations for a time, though it was perhaps a little too early to be putting so much spotlight on them. They’re very talented and inventive athletes, reminiscent of Matt and Nick in their first few years as a tandem. But the youth and inexperience has shown through a time or two. Generally, they need a veteran hand to keep on track. If they have that, they can have some really great matches. Without it, they can fall apart a bit.
It’s gotta be a relief for Quen, given this, that he’s up against Cody in this rare singles outing. It should make for an interesting match for sure and I imagine Quen will come out of it all the stronger for it. But there won’t be a title change tonight. Cody will have plenty more matches to go before this challenge is over. He probably still has that match with Fenix lined up down the road for one! So yeah, Cody over.
