Rarely in wrestling will an alliance last forever, with long lasting teams being a rarity. The cracks will form in some shape or form, and at NXT Takeover: In Your House, we saw this with Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez during the six woman tag that opened the show.
Two times near the end of the match, miscommunications would happen. First came on a running kick to the corner, where Kai nearly rocked Gonzalez, who scolded her to be careful. Second came in a moment that directly influenced the end of the match when Kai would connect with a kick. Nox & Blackheart would take advantage, and Kai would be pinned after a Shining Wizard. While things seemed okay at the end of the day, is this the start of things to come?
Raquel Gonzalez Is A Singles Star In The Making
When it comes to WWE, a certain type of woman will always get a major push. This is the powerhouse. They aren’t the most common around, and among their ranks are Nia Jax, Tamina, Beth Phoneix, Chyna and more. All people who generally got some great focus over their career, due to being able to stand out with their power alongside a more technically focused roster. Gonzalez shows great potential in this role, but right now she is stuck to the role of a lackey to Dakota Kai.
Dakota Kai Hasn’t Really Clicked As A Heel
While her turn on Tegan Nox was one of the best heel turns in NXT, what came after wasn’t as grand. She simply doesn’t have the moveset to be a heel, and while she plays cowardly well? It simply hasn’t clicked outside of matches with Tegan Nox. Having Gonzalez turn on Kai would let her move back to a face role, where she is much more better suited.
I don’t think they will be breaking up right away. This was only the first miscommunication from them, and WWE is lacking in female tag teams. We could even see them challenge for the NXT Tag Team Championships, but rest assured; this team up has a shelf life, and that is coming. It could be soon, it could be a year from now, but it will happen, and In Your House was the start point of this split. Do you think they’ll split within 2020?
