Another episode of AEW Dynamite begins! We see a highlight reel of Brian Cage destroying folks while Jon Moxley runs him down, footage of FTR and the Butcher & the Blade’s pull apart and Orange Cassidy’s confrontation of Chris Jericho, finally some of Cody/Jungleboy from last week. FTR’s debut match is set to be the first of the night – and Jericho himself comes out to join the commentary booth for the night! He’s got the bat, Floyd, out with him. And it looks like riding up in a pick-up truck is just FTR’s entrance! Neat.
FTR vs. The Butcher & The Blade
Crowd is legit kinda loud as the two teams face off. The Blade and Dax start out as the bell rings. Lock-up, they shove each other away. Lock-up again, Blade drives him into the corner and hesitates on the break. Tied up once more, back into the corner, ref has to pull Blade away. Lot more people out there in the crowd than usual this week, including Arn, Tully, Spears, Roberts and Archer quite interestingly. Headlock from Dax, Blade gets him to the ropes and a break is forced. Exchange of forearms! Blade shoots him off, Dax with a series of shoulder blocks, slips between his legs, O’Connor Roll for a 2 count! Inside cradle for 2, side headlock takeover!
Tag to Cash, knee drop to the arm! Shoulder breaker, tag to Dax, whip into a knee lift! Dax with a few stomps. Traps the arm into a Northern Lights Suplex for a 2 count. Blade drives him to his corner, tag to Butcher… all four men are suddenly in the ring facing off! Ref forcing separation. Loud chant of “FTR”. Butcher gets his leg grabbed from Dax, Cash attacks from behind. Couple of shoulder blocks and charging forearms but Butcher stays standing, even a running dropkick merely staggers him! Wheeler seemed to hurt his shoulder on the landing though. Ref wants Butcher to back off, but it was a trick as Wheeler rolls him up for a nearfall!
Furious, Butcher gets him with a huge crossbody! Takes him to the corner, tag to Blade, battering him in the corner! Blade distracts the ref and Butcher throttles Wheeler! Blade chokes him in the middle rope! Butcher tags in and does much the same. Quick tags and isolation, double team headbutts! Cash trying to fight out with elbows but a side headlock takeover gets him, grinding him against he mat now. Wheeler fights up, Jawbreaker! But Blade still has him, front facelock! Cheap shot keeps Dax from tagging in, Blade with a leap frog but Wheeler with a snap powerslam out of the air! There’s the tag to Dax, ducks a shot, series of jabs into a big right hand! Wicked Back Suplex! Dropkick takes Butcher off the apron, swinging neckbreaker to Blade, Dragon Screw to Butcher as he tries to rush in! And there’s the Brainbuster to Blade!
Pulls him up, takes him up top! Butcher wants to interfere, after a few attempts he knocks him to the mat! But FTR get him with a double hangman’s DDT! Little nod to FTRKO. Superplex, Frog Splash… NARROW kickout! Blade with a very close 2 count on a roll-up! Butcher comes in after seemingly a phantom tag, assisted Black Hole Slam for a nearfall! Try for Full Death but it’s pulled away and the Shatter Machine, now known as Goodnight Express gets rid of Butcher! The Assisted Spike Piledriver follows and that’s that!
Winners: FTR
Helluva debut, cool to see these guys in their element again. Tony Schiavone enters the ring to interview the winners. Dax says this is the pinnacle of tag team wrestling but before he can say much, in come the Young Bucks. Nick says he doesn’t want to be rude, he wants to congratulate them, that match was great. Matt says they also wanted to say thank you since they helped them out of a jam a couple of weeks ago. Though they appreciate the sentiment they did notice they failed to properly introduce themselves. So let’s do it now. Matt and Nick introduce themselves and Matt says they’ve been carrying tag team wrestling solely on their backs for a decade and a half. They’re the best tag team in AEW, they’re the Young Bucks. It’s so nice to finally meet them.
Before they can respond, Butcher attacks from behind! FTR attack him but in comes Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc to brawl as well! Kenny Omega and Hangman Page run them off! This leaves FTR, the Bucks and Kenny and Page in the ring… quite the interesting stand-off.
