Matt Riddle is now done with WWE NXT. His final match came last Wednesday Night when he was brutalized by Timothy Thatcher in the first ever Fight Pit match in NXT history. This match had WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle as a special guest referee, and Angle would be the one to introduce fans on Smackdown to Riddle. With Angle being involved in these two huge moments for Matt Riddle, one would assume that Angle is set to be the manager of Riddle. It would make sense even! Both adapted incredibly quick from other worlds into professional wrestling, and Riddle could be set to rival the rookie year of Kurt Angle. However, this will not be the case as Angle has stated he turned down the offer to manage Riddle.
Kurt Angle Speaks On Being Offered The Manager Role For Matt Riddle
While speaking with CBR, Angle would be asked if he would be the manager of Matt Riddle, but Angle had the following to say. “I think that Matt Riddle is going to be one of the faces of the WWE, he has all the ability. His personality is great. At first, it’s a little odd. But once you get to know him, he’s very likable, and that’s what he’s going to get from the fans. They’re going to love this kid. And he proves it in the ring. He’s phenomenal in the ring. There’s no doubt about that. But his whole bro gimmick thing works really well. And he’s going to do extremely well. WWE has offered me a job to manage him. Unfortunately, I turned it down due to a few different reasons, but I would have loved to manage him. It just wasn’t the right time.”
Riddle is someone who could benefit from having a legend like Angle hyping him up, but it also will not be needed. Like Angle said, the odd charisma of Riddle will connect with fans in a way that hasn’t been seen before. We have seen this in NXT, and in his appearances for WWE. Riddle is set to be a star, and there is very little that could stop this for him.
