We’ve got ourselves another marquee NXT event tonight, folks! The women’s division implodes as Mia Yim teams up with Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart in a trios bout with Candice LaRae, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez! This TakeOver is a rather unique one bringing back a branding I’m not sure anyone ever expected… it’s NXT TakeOver: In Your House! It’s cute and nostalgic in some ways, but it’s also a name that basically translates to being lesser than a regular PPV. I mean seriously that was the whole idea back in the day. Perhaps they want lower expectations than usual for this, the first and maybe only TakeOver of the pandemic era. Still the card looks as strong as just about any other so let’s get into the previews!
Mia Yim, Tegan Nox & Shotzi Blackheart vs. Candice LaRae, Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez
NXT have been playing up the depth of their women’s division more than ever in recent months, so it’s fitting that this TakeOver included nine representatives between this trios match and the triple threat later on. Mia Yim’s place in the division fluctuates a bit but she seems like the #2 babyface right now behind Rhea Ripley. Tegan Nox is a well-liked underdog who has put on some strong outings in the past and Shotzi Blackheart is just so made for NXT it’s hilarious. Green-haired woman with a horned helmet riding down to the ring on a little tank, just such an obvious insta-hit with that audience.
On the other side, we have Candice LaRae still fresh off her heel turn, paired up with the devious duo of Dakota Kai and her bodyguard Raquel Gonzalez. Dakota and Gonzalez have been the bane of Tegan’s existence for a long while now. Meanwhile LaRae has been at odds with Mia Yim, largely because Mia has allied herself with Keith Lee in the battle against the Garganos.
They’re all pretty even in their placement, it could definitely go either way. But the way I look at it, they probably don’t want Mr. and Mrs. Wrestling to be losing so soon after turning. I do think Tegan Nox has to get her big win over Dakota and Raquel eventually but not here. Once that does happen she has a good chance of going after Charlotte afterwards I think… but for now, heels over.
