Randy Orton is being interviewed backstage. He’s asked about the Greatest Wrestling Match Of All Time this Sunday. Says he doesn’t know if Edge is ready for this match but he changes the topic to the Peep Show later tonight. Asks the interviewer if Edge is the only guest on the Peep Show. She tells him that to her understanding, he is. Orton asks if the segment is up next and she says. He replies “Outstanding” and starts to leave but she asks him what he’s doing. Randy says he thinks there might just be two guests. Incredibly, in the truest sense of the word, she doesn’t know what this means and neither do the commentators. Christian now makes his way out for the Peep Show and he of course introduces Edge.
They set in the ring together and Christian talks up how genuinely happy he was for his big moment at WrestleMania finally coming back after all these years… but he has to be honest. Right now, at this point, he thinks he’s running on fumes. Crowd disagrees, “You Still Got It” chant ensues. Edge just stares Xian down incredulously. Christian says he’s gotta be honest, the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever… he doesn’t even think he could pull that off in his prime. Says best friends have to be brutally honest with each other, these are some high, lofty expectations and if he thinks for one second he can live up to that, he’s lying to himself. Tells him he’s starting to buckle and he doesn’t think he can handle the pressure.
Edge tells him to pump the brakes. Asks if he ever thought about what it’s like to be in his shoes right now? What he’s going through emotionally after all these years of not having a pure wrestling match in years? And now it’s being called the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever? He says this is the equivalent of being dropped at the bottom of Mt. Everest without any gear and being told to just do it. He says he’s not the same guy who looked Christian in the eye to give him confidence when he was so nervous he couldn’t even go out there before their matches together. He’s going up against a guy who is firing on all cylinders and he doesn’t even know how many cylinders he has.
Christian calls him out on his excuses. Asks what he thought would happen when he came back, Edge’s Greatest Hits? A spear here and a spear there, smile and go home? Asks him where’s the belief? Says he knew someone who used to believe in him better than anyone. That’s his mom. She used to be there at ringside for him every time for the big matches and if he thinks she won’t be there at Backlash, he’s wrong. Edge looks genuinely devastated. Christian says this is the Edge he was looking for… says “we” have confidence in you, he put Orton down at WrestleMania, he’s got the anti-venom. We think you can do this, we think you can put on the greatest wrestling match ever.
Orton appears on the screen and tells him all he’s hearing is what they think and not what they actually know. Says Edge made one guarantee and that was that he was going to “try” and he thinks that’s absolutely pathetic. The expectations are astronomical and what are you going to do when you don’t live up to those expectations? Promises to embarrass him, humiliate him, take every ounce of passion away from him until he is a broken man forced to go back home with Beth and his daughters, Lyric and Ruby. All because this Sunday at Backlash at the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever, the redemption of Edge is over.
Edge simply says “No it’s not” and leaves the ring.
