Just before Wrestlemania this year, one of the biggest stars in WWE decided to make a choice. In the midst of COVID-19, Roman Reigns would step away from the ring. This was a last minute choice, which changed the Universal Championship match between him & champion Goldberg. Instead, Braun Strowman would take his place win his first world title, infront of an empty crowd.
At the time, many assumed this choice to step away from WWE was due to his own health reasons. He has just beaten back Leukimia for the second time in his life, and it would make sense that he didn’t want to be exposed. However, he would clarify that he stayed away despite being in ‘perfect health’ to protect his family, as his wife was expecting twins.
Roman Reigns On The Choice To Just Stay Home
Given the recent outbreak in WWE, Roman Reigns absolutely made the right choice. While speaking with MetroPlus, he’d say the following.
“The decision was taken mainly because each performer travels so much, and we are all such a diverse group and from all over the place. I’m not convinced, and I can’t trust the fact that everybody is taking it as seriously and locking themselves down at home like I am. I trust my life with my co-workers every time I step foot in the ring, but I just can’t put the same trust when it has my children, my wife and my family involved. But I don’t want it to come off as I am taking a stand against the company at all, because I love the WWE. I’ve been a part of this company just since I was a little boy. That’s why I always take it so personally when I represent them.”
He would go on to state that he’s ready to come back huge. “I’m ready to smash people if you know what I mean. I’ve been training my butt off during this pandemic… when it comes down to it, I am gonna get in there and compete at the highest level… hopefully for a title. More specifically, the Universal Championship”
So while we don’t know when Roman will be back, that likely relies on the pandemic in America getting under control, we know what his goal is upon return. He’s keeping his shot at the Universal Championship, and anyone who holds it needs to keep that in mind.
