WWE Backlash 2020 commences. Sasha Banks and Bayley defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships in a triple threat match featuring the IIconics, Peyton Royce and Billie Kay and the team of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, aka Bliss-Cross. Backstage Bayley calls the two of them the first and best Women’s tag champs ever and says she can call her Bayley Dos Straps. The interviewer asks if losing the tag titles means losing the friendship. Sasha goes ahead and makes her entrance as Bayley continues talking in a split-screen, berating the interviewer for saying this. She then comes out as well and they pose together, that was a little bit strange.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships: Bayley & Sasha Banks (c) vs. The IIconics vs. Bliss-Cross
Nikki, Bayley and Billie start out. Nikki with a series of forearms to both women until they stop her and hair trip her. Bayley with a forearm to Billie, all six trade knocking each other out of the ring, Peyton, Alexa and Sasha all tag in at some point and there’s a three-way standoff between all three teams. Roll-ups, Sasha breaks up Peyton’s, Lucha Arm Drag, floatover for a 2 count. Peyton with a slap, snapmare takeover, wants a backslide, Sasha tries to make this into a sunset flip but she sits down upon it and there’s a 2 count. Alexa gets involved, series of cradles continues, standing O as they get to their feet.
They all abruptly knock people off the apron but that causes them to rush into the ring and a brawl kicks up. We end up with Alexa and Nikki taking over, Bliss with two big slaps to Royce and Banks, Nikki tags in. Clothesline in the corner to Sasha, wants to come out with a bulldog but Royce catches her with a spinning heel kick! Bayley comes in to attack, ref didn’t see a tag so they show him one. She drives Nikki into the corner, shoulder thrusts, back roll into a charging back elbow. Billie tags in and takes over, few stomps leading to an IIconic pose. Bayley with a victory roll for 2. Wheelbarrow/High Knee combo from Bayley and Banks, Nikki has to break up the pin. This isn’t as much of a mess as the recap makes it sound it’s just kinda hard to keep up with in text.
Bayley clobbers Nikki in the corner and takes her up top, Billie slings Bayley to the mat, Nikki comes to the mat, clothesline/bulldog to both women! Nikki makes the tag first to Alexa, in comes Royce as well, Alexa with a couple of shots to Bayley, hair trip to Royce, dropkick to Bayley, double knees to Royce into a Thesz Press to Bayley, then Sasha, then to Royce! Thesz Press City!! Knocks Billie off the apron also, double crossbody to Bayley and Royce. Sasha tags in but before she can enter the ring, a crossbody from Royce through the middle rope takes her and Alexa onto a whole crowd, wild spot!
IIconics with a Wheelbarrow High Knee of their own to Bayley, Sasha into the ring gets caught with a back elbow, double team slam but Criss-Cross enter the ring to prevent a pin. Royce tries to fight both but a Pancake/DDT combo plants her! That was cool. Billie Kay tries to prevent a tag but Nikki and her brawl to the floor. Alexa up top, Twisted Bliss onto Royce but Sasha with a sudden Oklahoma Roll to Bliss gets the flash win!
Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley
Chaotic, but I had fun. And honestly in the end I was not sure who was gonna end up winning which is always a plus.
