Over the last day or so, we have seen the true nature of the European wrestling scene exposed. Starting with David Starr being exposed by former partners for sexual & emotional abuse, the floodgates would be open. Many previously respected names like Marty Scurll, Jimmy Havoc, and more would be mentioned, and it even extended to the NXT UK Roster.
WWE Have Been Made Aware Of The Allegations
When it comes to NXT UK, a few key names have been listed. At the time of writing, the most recent is Wolfgang, with names like Jack Gallagher, El Ligero, Joe Coffey and more named. The biggest came towards NXT Cruiserweight Champion, Jordan Devlin.
A woman by the name of Hannah Francesca came forward with allegations of abuse while they were together, even showing the bruises he left on her body. WWE released the following statement on Devlin last night, with no further updates at this time. “We take any allegation of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter.”
Jordan Devlin And Others Could Lose Their WWE Contracts
While this was made in regards to Devlin, they have almost certainly had the cases of Coffey and the others brought to their attention as well. WWE has a very low tolerance for abuse, having removed Rich Swann & Enzo Amore from WWE in recent years for similar situations.
As previously noted, Devlin holds the original NXT Cruiserweight Championship, and has been unable to defend in recent months due to travel restrictions. Santos Escobar (formerly El Hijo Del Fantasma) won the tournament to crown an interim champion, but should Devlin be released from the company, he will simply become champion. Wolfgang is also one half of the NXT UK Tag Team Champions alongside Mark Coffey, who has no allegations against him at this time.
This could change the face of NXT UK as we know it, as these issues run deep on the roster. Before long, it’ll be a show focused on Women’s Wrestling, with WALTER murdering whoevers left in the men’s locker room with chops.
This situation is hard to stomach, but the bravery it takes to stand up and out someone who abused you is strong. It’s good this is happening, because the wrestling world won’t improve if nothing is done. This will almost certainly extend to North America soon, as this isn’t a new thing in professional wrestling. Things have always been shady with wrestlers, manys luck has just run out. As of right now, these are mainly just allegrations, and they need to be looked into properly before actions are taken.
