There’s been talk for years from fans wanting Vince McMahon to step down and allow Triple H to assume control of the company. Given how the current WWE product has been lacking in recent years, and with their “developmental” brand being the far better of the three shows has only fueled this speculation further.
Recently, I reported on the possibility of Adam Cole leaving the WWE to sign with AEW when his contract ends in August. This has been one move that’s been hotly debated among fans online, and as such it made it to Jim Cornette’s desk.
Whatever you may think of him, Cornette is an encyclopedia of wrestling information and knowledge, and he makes several valid points. But one that stuck out was what could happen to the WWE in the post Vince McMahon era when Triple H takes over?
Shows moving
This is something most of us never thought of, but when Cornette pointed it out it made sense.
The WWE is not only the largest wrestling company in the world, it’s also the most stable if we look at previous years. This is based on the fact that Vince and company will weather this current storm and listen to fans for once. While that’s a huge assumption, it’s possible. He and the WWE have survived far worse.
To start off speculation on a post Vince McMahon era, we’ll play off what Cornette said about NXT and Raw switching nights on the USA network. It’s something that seems like it wouldn’t happen, but NXT is the better of the three shows, so it’d make sense to put it in a prime spot on Monday night. Not only could it potentially give them another hour to play with, but they’d be unopposed by AEW Dynamite and their viewership wouldn’t be split between the two companies. It’d also put the show in the national spotlight as they’d square off with Monday Night Football, and those that haven’t seen it yet for whatever reasons would now have the chance instead of Raw.
NXT is not only the better show, but the talent is young and hungry. They’ve shown their willingness to push the envelop and relay on a mix of old and new school styles to tell their in-ring stories.
Plus, it is the show and brand Triple H has built. It’s his baby, and it only makes sense for him to make it the focus of the WWE Universe.
It may be what the wrestlers want
With NXT as the new flagship show, he could then work to improve Raw and Smackdown. Not an easy task, but if reports are true, the NXT stars have complete faith in him. As mentioned on the podcast, it’s been said that when the wrestlers move up to Raw or Smackdown, they find it’s completely different and Triple H is often the one they can talk to. He’s reported to be the WWE’s inner PR person as it’s rumored he’s constantly talking talent into staying with the company.
Jim Ross has stated numerous times at how Vince would insult and/or mock him, change plans for matches or show at the last minute, and berate and challenge people. While this can be seen as his way of pulling the best out of others, since we either fight or flee when challenged, it doesn’t work on everybody.
Things could be calmer under Triple H. We know the product would most certainly be better.
As mentioned in the beginning, this is something fans have been begging for for years. It’ll be interesting to see what does happen when the time comes. Everyone assumes it’ll be Triple H taking over the throne, but what if Shane McMahon wants the family business?
Stay tuned for part two of Post Vince McMahon Era.
