Lately within WWE NXT, we’ve seen a feud with Keith Lee & Mia Yim clashing with Johnny Gargano & Candice LeRae. You would figure this would have ended with both Gargano & Yim losing at NXT Takeover: In Your House, with Gargano’s loss being a title match even. However, last night they clashed once again and the barrier between genders started to crumble. Mia Yim would prove she could hang with Johnny Gargano, pummeling him with elbows before suplexing him across the ring. She was more keen on fighting him than Candice LeRae during this match. Could we see a proper intergender match within NXT very soon?
Mia Yim Is An Expert At This Style
While it is not something that everyone enjoys, there are some wrestlers who excel in Intergender wrestling. One of them is Mia Yim, who had matches with the likes of Keith Lee & Matt Riddle before making her way to NXT. Johnny Gargano is even experienced in this style, with him having met Candice when they were booked to face each other on a show. They both have experience, the storyline is right, and are top level wrestlers, which would make this the perfect time for WWE to try this style of match in NXT.
WWE Teased Intergender Matches In The Past Between Dean Ambrose & Nia Jax
While the plans never came to fruition, just before Ambrose would leave to refind himself as Jon Moxley, it looked like he’d be placed in a series of matches with Nia Jax on his way out. These were being viewed as a special attraction to boost live event tickets, which were dwindling at the time. Mox has gone on record saying he would have been okay doing this, and would have put his all into it.
This shows that WWE isn’t opposed to the style, and considering how much of a beating Yim put on Gargano on NXT? The timing looks good. Intergender Wrestling might never shake it’s stigma, but with Tessa Blanchard as Impact World Champion and fans being wowed by Will Ospreay vs. Bea Priestley, more and more people are coming around to it. If NXT does it, it will be the most mainstream it has ever been, and will gather some serious attention, both positive and negative.
Do you think WWE should just let Mia Yim & Johnny Gargano fight it out in the ring? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
