After his Impact Wrestling victory over Michael Elgin and Hernandez in a tripe threat match on night two of Rebellion, Moose declared himself TNA World Heavyweight Champion. While this seemed strange at the time, the fact he “picked up” the old TNA Championship belt and declared it his took on an interesting twist when he withdrew from the #1 Contender Tournament and began defending his new unsanctioned title against TNA originals, not Impact Wrestling stars.
He defended his championship (also forcing the ring announcer to declare him champion and the referee to who off his belt before each match) against Suicide, Hernandez, and Crazzy Steve. The latter challenger bore a more sadistic brunt of Moose’s onslaught as he laughed at him and called him a fake champion the week before.
Once Steve was in a heap, Tommy Dreamer and others came out to check on him. Moose then kicked Dreamer in the head and unleashed a few stomps on him.

Called out
This lead to Dreamer calling Moose out as a waste of talent, both as a wrestler and a former NFL player. Over the next couple of weeks, the two exchanged a war of words with Mosoe demanding an apology or he’d sue, and Dreamer giving him one of the weakest apologies ever. Following an exchange where Dreamer said he spoke to the TNA championship committee, Moose finally admitted there is no committee, undermining his own championship run.
Because of all of this, Moose will defend his championship as the self-proclaimed “true world champion” against Tommy Dreamer at Slammiversary under “old school rules.”
Going old school
What does old school rules mean? Well, that’s the thing. We don’t know. Dreamer’s been with Impact since 2010, and his career goes back thirty years to the old ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling) under Paul Heyman.
We may be wrong, but our guess is he’s referring to the ECW days where everything was legal. To put it bluntly for those that never got to see it, anything and everything goes in a match.
Now, it’s doubtful it’ll be as extreme as those matches used to be when there were people jumping twenty feet for an elbow drop, barbed wire and blood everywhere, but we imagine it’s going to be a hardcore match that’ll be more hardcore than we’ve seen in recent years.
If they go this route, it’s going to be an interesting throwback to those days, and should make for an interesting match for us all.
In the end, we think Moose will win just because he’s Moose and it’ll set up a title unification match down the line. We love Tommy Dreamer, and he’d be perfect to end Moose’s reign, but we just don’t see it.
