At Slammiversary, we saw Eddie Edwards become our new Impact Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, beating Ace Austin, Trey, Rich Swann and Eric Young. However, while he now holds the championship, it is a different belt than before. This is because of Tessa Blanchard, who is holding the old belt up for ransom.
Tessa Blanchard Allegedly Wanted $150,000 The Championship
With information coming from @BeltFanDan on Twitter, who is as knowledgeable as it comes with Wrestling Championships, Tessa Blanchard still has the previous Impact Wrestling Championship. She has put Impact Wrestling in a tight spot, requesting $150,000 to give it back to them. Rather than play her games, they simply commissioned for a new title belt to be made. This is why the plates on it are now silver when they were once gold.
This is why back in the day, the NWA would make champions put a deposit down on their titles. It prevented champions from leaving with the title, or else they wouldn’t get their money back. This is also what allowed Flair to take the WCW Heavyweight Championship onto WWF TV, as they refused to pay him back his deposit for the title, so he took it with him.
You might be thinking, “well, at least they have the original TNA Championship, right?”
Moose Is Using A Replica Title
Adding some humor to the storyline of Moose finding the TNA Championship and naming himself champion, he doesn’t even have the real title. He is actually using a replica title, likely made in Pakistan. This is because the original title has been sold already, and is owned by a private owner.
These replica titles can look very real, with NJPW using a replica of the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, after Naito destroyed the last one. So at least Moose isn’t the only one parading around with a fake title. Despite this, it serves its role as a prop well enough, and simply has to look like an expensive championship.
Does the title being defended on TV make it a legitimate title, even when it is a replica build? Do you think Tessa Blanchard is actually holding the Impact Wrestling Championship up for random? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
