It looks as though Ric Flair is interested in another match following his retirement bout in 2022. Not only is he interested but he wantsto get back in the ring! It’s one of those statements that has fans talking for several reasons.
Ric Flair Wants to Get Back in the Ring—Mentions Ricky Morton as a Good Opponent to Face
While chatting with Chris Van Vliet, Flair said that he wants to wrestle again, and that Ricky Morton should’ve been his final opponent.
“I want to wrestle again right now. Isn’t it crazy? I feel like because Ricky Morton, the guy that I should have chosen for my last match, would have been great. Ricky Morton is still wrestling.” (h/t: Ringside News)
The two faced off over Ric Flair’s NWA World title in 1986 with their Great American Bash cage clash being the most famous of the bouts. It was a dramatic affair with several close calls for both men only for “The Nature Boy” to hold on to his gold.
While Flair was NWA Champion, Ricky Morton—as the sell-master on the roster—traveled the country with tag partner Robert Gibson as the Rock N Roll Express and often as the NWA Tag Team Champions. By the 1990s, wrestling had changed significantly and eventually Morton was out of a regular promotion with TV.
As for Ric Flair, he’s always been on television as a wrestler. The reason this has gotten so much attention is that we all just experienced his last match. It was a heavily promoted affair. The match itself was meh and Ric had health issues during it.
There are some fans who aren’t clamoring for a Ric and Ricky Rewind even if Morton is younger at 67. Hell, it’s risky for Morton to keep going but like Flair, he’s gotten to wrestle smarter not harder. Currently, Morton wrestles for his School of Morton promotion as well as the NWA.
Ultimately, it would be a bit of a kick in the ribs if fans saw another Ric Flair fipural match being advertised—after they purchased a ticket or the event the first time. Share your thoughts of Flair wanting to face Morton and him wanting to wrestle again after retirement.
