The main event of the upcoming Slammiversary PPV is a four way match between Ace Austin, Eddie Edwards, Trey and a mystery opponent. This is a very different match than originally planned, as it’s also for a vacant championship, once held by none other than Tessa Blanchard. She had become the first woman to ever hold the Impact World Heavyweight Championship, having beaten her rival Sami Callihan for it earlier in the year. We would also see Michael Elgin removed from the match, as alongside Blanchard, he’d be released from the company.
Blanchard was difficult to work with on the build to the match, refusing to travel from her home base in Mexico to show up on TV, and wouldn’t even record videos to be aired on Impact Wrestling, making the build for this match harder than it should have been. Now it’s been revealed she was willing to work the Slammiversary match, but Impact wasn’t taking her price.
Tessa Blanchard Was More Trouble Than She Was Worth
It has been widely reported that Tessa Blanchard is not the easiest person to have as a co-worker. Backstage attitude is what kept her away from WWE, and her racist outburst at La Rosa Negra had most of the industry turn their backs on her. But in this situation, she was willing to make the trip from Mexico to the United States during the pandemic to drop the belt.
First reported by Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Blanchard would offer Impact Wrestling a one-date price to get her onboard for this match, but they weren’t having it. Instead, they opted to fire one of their top stars before her contract ran out, and strip her of the title. It’s not hard to see that she might have been the most liked person in the company, unless the asking price for her to show up was absurd.
Her Fiancee Still Wants To Work With Impact Wrestling
Meanwhile, Daga who is currently the bethrothed of Tessa Blanchard, still wants to work with the company. Impact has been his biggest platform yet outside of Mexico, and he has consistently impressed when he showed up. He is the current AAA Latin American Champion, but had his eyes on the X-Division title in Impact Wrestling. His relationship with Blanchard thankfully shouldn’t harm that relationship, as her issues are not his issues.
Daga also works for Dragon Gate, so between that and AAA, with the potential to get to AEW through their partnership. So even if Impact decided to cut ties, he has many places that would have him.
Do you think Impact Wrestling should have paid Tessas price to have her show up and end her reign in a more satisfying way? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
