We have yet to see Santos Escobar defend his NXT Cruiserweight Championship since winning it, but a few top cruiserweights are ready for him. Jake Atlas has been out of action, while Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott is the only man in the company to have a win over him. This match would almost serve as a #1 contenders match for Santos Escobar, who would leave with the best chance at a title shot?
Fast Paced Cruiserweight Action
As expected from Swerve vs. Atlas, this is going to be a helluva match. Coming back from an injury, Atlas was extra motivated to get a win.
They would lock up early, but the unpredictable Swerve would get the advantage. However, Atlas is just as creative, and this would resemble a dance routine until Swerve got kicked in the face. He’d soon dodge a leg lariat and roll Atlas up for the pin fall attempt.
Heavy shots would be thrown from both men, but a jumping kick to the face would drop Atlas hard as we went to a commercial break. Coming back from the break, Atlas would get the advantage with a springboard blockbuster for a near fall. Swerve would fight out and hit a hard back elbow to the face, but fail to hit a backdrop.
Jake Atlas & Swerve Are Both Future Champions
Swerve would look for the rolling dropkick but get kicked in the face and dropped on his face for a near fall. However, he’d move a rollup into a german suplex somehow, then hit a flatliner for a near fall. There is no one quite like Swerve anywhere else in wrestling, the closest comparison being Chris Bey of Impact Wrestling.
He’d look for the confidence booster in the corner, but Atlas would evade. They’d battle for control, and Atlas would hit a top rope Whale Hunt for the 2.9 count, in a move that should be a finisher.
He’d go to the rope for the Rainbow DDT, but get tripped up and kicked in the face twice, including a House Call on the outside of the ring. Swerve would nail the JML Driver, and walk away with a win.
Following this match, Legado Del Fantasma should be on notice as we see a threat for their fearless leader. Can Swerve become NXT Cruiserweight Champion, or will he be the first of many defenses of Santos Escobar? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
