Sasha Banks and Bayley have been running roughshod over the competition for weeks, but this could be coming to an end on WWE Raw tonight. Banks and Bayley are facing a team that’s no stranger to tag team gold — the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane).
It also matches the two brands’ women’s division champions facing off for the second week as Bayley will carry Smackdown’s banner and Asuka Raw’s. The two of them faced off last week on Raw in a Champion vs Champion Match. Arguably the best match of the night saw Asuka defeat Bayley, thanks to a distraction from Nikki Cross and a save by Sane on Banks to keep the latter from saving Bayley.
It was the latest and best addition to their feud that will come to a head at Extreme Rules when Sasha Banks will face Asuka for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. The plan, according to Bayley and Banks, is to take over the WWE by holding all of the women’s titles between them.
While this is a possibility, will it happen?
A speed bump
With Kairi Sane’s return, the Kabuki Warriors are poised to reclaim what they lost a few months back. The problem with this is there are more than a few rumors out there that claim Kairi Sane will return to Japan with her husband after Summer Slam ’20.
While Summer Slam in a month and a half away, it’s difficult to see Sane and Asuka win the tag team championship for only a month before they’d have to drop them. Unless the WWE will allow Asuka to pick an interim partner until Sane returns.
Of course, there’s always the possibility the Kabuki Warriors could lose the titles in a triple threat, four way, or elimination match. The WWE did have Miz and Morrison lose the Smackdown Tag Team Championships in a singles match, so anything’s possible. The WWE flies by their own rules, as we all know.
But all of that feels unnecessary and contrived, which means it’d make more sense for Bayley and banks to retain on WWE Raw. The problem then becomes who will beat them now?
Well, there’s always Nikki Cross (who is challenging Bayley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Extreme Rules) and Alexa Bliss.
That’s about it for the women’s tag team division, so we expect the WWE to continue with what’s comfortable for them and leave the championships with Bayley and Banks.
It’d be nice if we were wrong. There needs to be a shakeup to make things interesting again, and this could be it.
