This has the potential to be an awesome match if allowed to run, and we expect it to be the main event for that reason. Oh, and because it’s for the Smackdown Tag Team Championship.
This is a great matchup on several levels as Nakamura and Cesaro have shown great chemistry and continue to improve and show they’re capable of so much more without Sami Zayn as their manager and mouthpiece.
Power of positivity vs. cynical skill
Nakamura and Cesaro continue to seek the respect they deserve, and have taken every opportunity available to strike at New Day to wear them down and provoke them into this match.
They’ve proven themselves more than capable of holding their own against the best the Smackdown Brand has to offer, as evidenced by Nakamura defeating Kofi Kingston in their one on one match last week. What’s really makes them a threat is the fact Nakamura scored the win after Big E and Cesaro were banned from ringside.
The thing is, this could be now or never for Nakamura and Cesaro. They’re a great heel team and New Day should drop the belts to them. It’ll help make the pair a legitimate threat as a team instead of just another pair that came and went.
On top of that, and this won’t sit well with everyone, it’ll give us a rest from the New Day. As much fun and entertaining as Big E and Kingston are, we need something fresh, and Nakamura and Cesaro offer that.
Change can be good
It’ll also give Big E a chance to test the waters as an individual talent as he seems to be getting a little more camera time and be a little more enthusiastic lately. This is just a personal observation, but the energy with him feels different the last few weeks, but it’s hard to really tell without fans there and everything being pre-recorded and edited to show us what Vince McMahon wants us to see.
There have been various rumors online about the New Day breaking up with Big E and Kingston reportedly saying it’s not going to happen, and this could be the opportunity to give everyone a little something different. Kingston had a great singles push, so no reason Big E shouldn’t get one while keeping the team intact.
There’s also the possibly we’ll get to see Otis and Tucker again, since they haven’t been on WWE TV for a month. It could be because of the COVID-19 flareup, but it ft’s not, having Heavy Machinery face Nakamura and Cesaro at Extreme Rules would be a fun change of pace and give two fresh teams a chance to start making their mark.
