Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s WWE Smackdown Live Results and Recap!
I’m your host, CP Bialois, and we should be in for an interesting show tonight.
It’s the last show before the Payback pay-per-view this Sunday (August 30), and we’ll get to see the final matches added to the card as well as what Retribution has planned for tonight.
Segment 1
Security chief, Adam Pierce, was sent to get the Universal Championship match contract signed by Vince McMahon.
AJ Styles confronte Jeff Hardy over not being allowed to complete this week as we ehaded to commercial.
Segment 2
Intercontinental Championship – Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
A pretty good match saw Nakamura dominate early, with Jeff turning the tide at the commercial.
Segment 3
Jeff won to retain the Intercontinental Championship after hitting Nakamura with his knee brace like he had Styles, and Styles wasted no time to call it out.
Sami Zayn returned with his own Intercontinenal Championship and nailed Jeff with a kick after the match, calling him fraud.
Segment 4
Postman Pierce (Adam Piece in McMahon’s disguise) talked Wyatt into signing the contract for Payback.
Wyatt said if he know the Fiend, then he just signed a couple of death warrants.
Matt Riddle came out and called King Corbin a coward and challenged him to match as the commerical started. Guess Retribution is responsible for these really back break timings?
Segment 5
Matt Riddle vs. Shorty G
This was a really short match that furthered Corbin and Riddle’s feud.
Big E and Heavy Machinery against Miz, Morrison, and Sheamus was announced for later tongiht
Segment 6
Sasha Banks and Bayley exchanged a promo with Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax for their match at Payback.
Backstage, Pierce narrowly avoided being throttled by Storwman after Drew Gulak hit him in the back with a chair, tossed the chair to Pierce, then ran off.
Strowman will sign only after Pierce gets Gulak in the ring.
So, Strowman’s about to kill Gulak in the ring. Good times.
Segment 7
Cesaro and Nakamura weren’t happy to see Zayn back.
Strowman slaughtered Gulak, then signed the contract at the top of the ramp.
Segment 8
Cesaro vs. Kalisto
This was a fun match that ended with Cesaro rolling Kalisto up for the pin when he was distracted by Lucha House Party trying to keep Nakamura from interfering outside the ring.
Segment 9
Alexa Bliss lost her cool and broke her present when Nikki Cross mentioned a braid in her hari reminded her of the Fiend
Big E and Heavy Machinery (Tucker and Otis) vs. The Miz, John Morrison, and Sheamus after the break.
Segment 10
Big E and Heavy Machinery controled thing early on, but Tucker was soon isolated.
Sheamus rang the bell to distract everyone as we headed to commercial.
Segment 11
Big E hit the MIz with a Big Ending to win the match.
Backstage, Roman Reigns said him winning the Universal Championship isn’t a prediction but a spoiler.
Paul Heyman is Reigns’ manager.
No Retritbution, and Paul Heyman has returned. Not a bad ending or show overall. What do you all think?
