WWE Smackdown Results (8/28) – Intercontinental Championship – Jeff Hardy (c) Defeated Shinsuke Nakamura; Sami Zayn Returns

WWE Smackdown Results came back to Styles on the announcing team as Shinsuke Nakamura came out to accept Jeff’s challenge.

Intercontinental Championship – Jeff Hardy (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

They started off in typical lockup fashion before separating. Nakamura tried a waist lock, but Jeff countered it.

Nakamura reversed that into a wrist lock. A brief struggle led to Jeff countering that into his own wrist lock.

Nakamura pushed him into the ropes, then kicked him when they were forced to break.

Jeff hit with a clothesline and neck snap before hitting with an elbow and a near pinfall.

Nakamura countered an Irish whip and hit Jeff’s injured knee with a dropkick, then a scissors kick to Jeff’s leg.

A brief interview with Cesaro played alongside the match, and it sounds like they’re working to separate Nakamura and Cesaro.

During the interview, Nakamura continued to work on Jeff’s leg, then hit with a pair if kicks when Jeff was on his knees.

Nakamura caught Jeff’s kick attempt, but Jeff hit with a step up kick.

Nakamura caught him with a knee when he charged into the corner, and Jeff slipped out of the way of Nakamura’s running knee.

They exchanged suplex attempts over the top rope, but Jeff slipped out of Nakamura’s hold and knocked him out of the ring.

Jeff then threw Nakamura into Styles at the announcer’s table.

    Unexpected returns

Back from commercial, Nakamura is back in control with a leg lock that he had to break for whatever reason.

Jeff started his comeback by fighting Nakamura off and hitting with an inverted atomic drop, a double leg drop and a splash for a near pinfall.

Nakamura hit with a combination of strikes and kicks and set Jeff on the top rope.

Jeff fought him off and hit with a Whisper of the Wind from Jeff.

Nakamura hung Jeff up in the ropes, then slid under him and pulled him down, driving his head into the mat.

He then hit with a knee off the top rope, but Jeff kicked out.

Jeff sidestepped a Twist of Fate into a sleeper hold that Jeff then reversed into another Twist of Fate.

Jeff then hit with a swanton bomb for the pin and win.

After the match, Styles continued jawing, saying Jeff used the knee brace on his injured right knee.

As Jeff was on the ramp, Sami Zayn came out with his own Intercontinental Championship and got in Jeff’s face.

Zayn refused to acknowledge there’s another champion, and when Jeff watched Styles, Zayn hit him with a kick and called Jeff a fraud before running off.

Backstage, Zayn was singing “Happy Day” when he was asked why he attacked jeff Hardy.

He asked her how she could call herself a journalist for asking questions like that.

After checking Jeff wasn’t around him, he called Jeff and Styles fraudulent champions.

When pressed, he refused to answer why he hasn’t defended his championship I five months and said he’s still the champion and threw some French Kayley’s way.

Welcome back, Sami. WWE Smackdown Results missed you.
