The headline match of the G1 Climax Night Two saw former IWGP Heavyweight and IWGP Intercontinental ‘Double Champion’ Evil and former four-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr (ZSJ) face each other in their fourth singles match.
Suzuki-Gun member ZSJ was caught off guard as Bullet Club member Evil and his manager Dick Togo used Suzuki-Gun tactics, attacking ZSJ before the opening bell.
G1 Climax 30: Evil v Zack Sabre Jr
While Evil was able to take the early advantage and control the tempo with his immense power advantage, yet due to ZSJ’s expertise in Catch Wrestling, he was able to begin picking apart his opponent.
ZSJ had long been a headache for Evil, who often struggles against ZSJ in singles and multi-tag competition — yet, Dick Togo played a role in helping Evil retake the advantage.
ZSJ struggles in singles competition when he loses his composure and focus, however, he was able to mentally keep it together after Togo inserted himself into the match.
Taking a page out of his mentors’ handbook, ZSJ transitioned a Standing Choke technique into a Zack Driver (passed on to him by Taka Michinoku) position, but Evil was able to counter out of it.
When it looked as if the combination of Dick Togo and Evil was too much for ZSJ, he was able to counter the EVIL technique into a European Clutch for a sudden fall at the 15 minute and 54-second mark.
The win makes Evil’s path towards receiving the V1 opportunity for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship a tough task, while ZSJ appropriately begins G1 Climax 30.
ZSJ made his name in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) by running an impressive gauntlet and winning the New Japan Cup 2018 excitingly, stunning the wrestling world.
This result means Block B is wide open for anyone to come out on top.
