The third G1 Climax 30 Night Two tournament match saw a rematch from Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night Two. On that night, Hirooki Goto (CHAOS) was able to defeat Kenta (Bullet Club) in the V3 defense of his first reign for the NEVER Openweight Championship.
The tension between the two over Kenta turning his back on New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) Los Angeles (LA) Dojo Head Trainer Katsuyori Shibata in favor of Bullet Club. Goto and Shibata were classmates at the Kuwana Kogyo High School, adding an extra layer to the personal offense Goto felt, despite Shibata never being associated with the CHAOS unit.
G1 Climax 30: Kenta v Hirooki Goto
Kenta has been on a roll after winning New Japan Cup USA 2020 and securing the V3 challenge of Jox Moxley’s current reign with the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship.
Got’s recent NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Championship title victory was a great moment for CHAOS, especially Yoshi-Hashi who was able to capture the first title of his career.
The battle between Kenta and Goto was hard-fought and of a higher quality than their match during Wrestle Kingdom 14. Goto did not back down from Kenta, bringing the fight to him, much like their match at the Tokyo Dome.
However, Kenta was able to secure the victory with his Game Over submission technique at the 17 minute and 15-second mark. With the victory, Kenta picks up two points and gains a measure of revenge over his biggest rival since joining NJPW.
Goto will need to quickly regain his form in singles competition if he’s going to remain a factor during the latter stages of bracket action. While Kenta is on an impressive streak and might be the wrestler to beat in B Block with his recent string of impressive victories.
