This is a match that’s been brewing since Slammiversary, and it looks like it’s finally going to happen for Impact Wrestling.
Since he appeared at Slammiversary, Eric Young has been on a rampage. First he injured Rich Swann in what was a career ender, and then again when Swann announced his retirement.
The following week, Young faced and defeated Swann’s best friend, Willie Mack, but that wasn’t enough.
Yong came back to Impact Wrestling to win the Impact World Championship, and he’s finally getting his shot.

Bidding his time
Young has stated time and again that everything he’s done was to face Eddie Edwards when he wanted to.
It can be argued that it didn’t matter who won the Impact World Championship at Slammiversary, as they would’ve been a target for Young.
It just happened that Swann was the one the eliminated him, so he eliminated Swann.
In the time since then, Young has antagonized and tormented Edwards without fail as he enjoyed watching him squirm and grow more frustrated by the week.
Obviously, Young expects Edwards to make mistakes when they face each other tonight, but we don’t think things will go as he’s planned.
Sure, Edwards is going to be frustrated, but he’s had a week to prepare for this match. He’s had a chance to work out what he wants to do and how to do it.
The same can be said of Young, but we think Young already knew how he wants the match to, and this is why we expect Edwards to win and retain the Impact World Championship.

Edwards retains
While Young is more than capable of defeating Edwards and taking the championship, but his “doing it on my time” has a slight problem.
To us, it feels like his plan would’ve worked better had he accepted one of Edwards’ open challenges.
From a strategic standpoint, it would’ve made sense and given him a chance to catch Edwards unprepared.
But, given the need to build hype for the match, it makes sense for them to announce it this week so our argument’s a wash.
Instead, we think Edwards will retain simply because it makes sense for him to remain champion for a while longer.
This doesn’t mean he won’t lose as a disqualification is highly likely. And even if Edwards wins clean, we expect Young to attack him afterwards to continue their feud for Bound for Gory pay-per-view.
