NXT UK is finally back with new matches after nearly six months, taped from BT Sports studio, and are looking to come back as strong as ever. What better way to get started than with the NXT UK Tag Team Champions in action. Wolfgang & Mark Coffey of Gallus are here to show why they’re the champions, at the expense of Amir Jordan & Kenny Williams in a non-title match.
Gallus Show Why They’re Champions
Jordan would get things started alongside Coffey, with Coffey locking up early with a headlock, being shoved off and knocking Jordan down with a shoulder tackle. Coffey would shut down Jordan when he got moving, but Williams would get the tag. Williams would attack the arm of Coffey, but Wolfgang would get the tag in.
There was no sign of ring-rust on anyone in this match, but Williams & Jordan would seek to isolate Wolfgang until he was run through with a lariat. The powerhouse Coffey came in and leveled Jordan again, with a running uppercut. Jordan would find himself isolated in the corner of Gallus, punished by submissions, and unable to break out.
This shows why Gallus at the top team in NXT UK, they know how to keep a match in their control. Coffey would beat down Jordan, and Williams was getting eager to make the tag, but his partner might as well be miles away.
Isolation can’t last forever, and after being sent across the ring with a double monkey flip. Jordan would counter out of a powerslam attempt, and levels Wolfgang with a step-up enziguri.
Kenny Williams Tries To Save This One
Williams made it back into this match, but his agility focused offense was hard to pull off on a heavyweight like Wolfgang, being caught in midair and halted. Eventually he’d hit a frankensteiner, followed by a bulldog into the turnbuckle and a springboard dropkick.
He’d take Coffey off the apron with a dropkick, and roll up Wolfgang for a two count, then hit a PK for another two count! Williams would set up something, but instead be hit with a backdrop, allowing Coffey to re-enter the match. A deadlift german suplex got a two count, but another rollup from Williams almost stole it.
Williams would hit a slingblade, but failed to capitalize, instead looking to tag Jordan in. Jordan would hit a senton bomb off the top rope, but Wolfgang made the save at the last second. Coffey would drop Jordan, tag in Wolfgang and one powerslam would end this one.
NXT UK’s tag team division is a hidden gem in WWE, and matches like this show exactly this. Without a hyped crowd behind them, Williams & Jordan simply couldn’t get the full comeback, and Gallus would be met by their challengers, Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster, The Hunt, Pretty Deadly, Smith & Carter.
