When it comes to wrestling in the UK, there is a rich history to pull from. A deep heritage built by companies like World Of Sport, one built by men like William Regal, Fit Finlay & Johnny Saint. This is going to be honoured in NXT UK with the Heritage Cup, which will be contested under British Rounds Rules, giving this a very unique flair to be sure.
The Rules For The NXT UK Heritage Cup
The rules as described by William Regal are as followed. Matches will take place over six 3-minute rounds, with twenty second breaks between each round. All matches will two out of three falls, with falls coming from Pinfall, Submission or Count Out, two two falls needed for victory, and a round ends at a fall. A DQ or KO will end the match instantly, and if it goes past six rounds? Whoever leads in points gets the win.
They will likely have a plan in mind for 1-1 draws, likely just sudden death overtime. It will be single elimination, much like WWE’s classic King Of The Ring tournament. This is a unique rule set for WWE, but with the right eight men could become an absolute delight that fans look forward too every year, like the Dusty Cup in NXT.
Who’s In This Tournament?
Seven of the men will be announced before the tournament begins, with the first seven being Flash Morgan Webster, Noam Dar, Alexander Wolfe, A-Kid, Dave Mastiff, Joesph Connors and Trent Seven. A great list spanning the NXT UK roster, and some of the best wrestlers on the brand. You have high flyers in Flash Morgan Webster, heavyweights in Dave Mastiff, and some all around greats in Noam Dar & Trent Seven.
The final name will be revealed on another day, leaving some room for speculation. Names like Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Joe Coffey and more absent from this list leave room for some serious talent to step in.
