Kubrat Pulev has raised the stakes ahead of his heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua in December, as he has made a remark about the colour of his skin during an interview. It’s unknown yet whether Pulev will face any reprecussions for his comments, and Joshua is yet to respond to the comments that have been made.
Pulev made the comment during an interview where he was questioned about the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion. He was asked about the strengths that Joshua has, and he replied that he believed that Joshua had a ‘tan’ that is better than his. The huge heavyweight fight is scheduled to take place in December, but the venue and date are still yet to be announced.
Boxing News: New Date And Venue Set To Be Revealed
The huge heavyweight showdown is scheduled to be the last fight for Joshua before the biggest unification fight that we have seen in many years. Joshua was originally set to take on Pulev back in June at the New Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the date was cancelled due to the impact of the coronavirus. No new date has yet been put on the bout, but it is widely believed to be taking place in December, which could be just days before or after Tyson Fury has battled Deontay Wilder for a third and final time.
Fury has already expressed his concern that the fight against Wilder may not go ahead, and has left the door open for the huge unification bout to happen sooner than anybody expected. Wilder lost to Fury earlier this year, and all sights had been set on a showdown between the two British heavyweights to find out who the rightful champion of the division is.
Boxing News: Mandatory Challenger Scuppers Plans
However, any hope of seeing the Joshua vs Fury fight was over before it began, as the IBF declared that Joshua must face his mandatory challenger before attempting to unify the division. Pulev earned his title shot against Joshua after winning an eliminator against Tyson’s brother Hughie back in October 2018.
Meanwhile, Wilder also activated his re-match clause to face Fury in a trilogy fight despite fight fans reluctantly admitting that it wasn’t a fight that they wanted to see again. Both fights are set to be huge events in December, with the winners likely to face each other in 2021.
