The second headline match of G1 Climax 30 Night 9 saw former five-time NEVER Openweight Champion, two-time Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion, and CHAOS member Tomohiro Ishii against Suzuki-Gun member Taichi.
Ishii, who came into the match sitting at 2 points and off his first G1 Climax 30 victory against former NEVER Openweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) Shingo Takagi on Night 7 of the tournament.
Taichi, who came into the match with 6 points, was coming off a loss to former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada.
Ishii and Taichi didn’t back down from one another, with Taichi again showing his increased fighting spirit as he drew deep from within to fight toe to toe against the “Stone Pitbull.”
Ishii, of course, brought his straight forward brawling style and his amazing fighting spirit forward. Ishii has surpassed what his natural talent and athletic ability would lead most pundits would believe he’d achieve for his career.
Taichi has surprised many during G1 Climax 30 with the quality of performances against individuals like Suzuki-Gun leader Minoru Suzuki and Okada earlier during the tournament.
However, Ishii was able to gain the fall at the 18 minutes and 41 seconds mark with his Sheer Drop Brainbuster technique. The victory for Ishii moves him to 4 points and within striking distance to those at the top of the A Block.
Taichi remaining at 6 points means he’s suffered back to back losses in the tournament to CHAOS members, effectively putting a stop to his momentum. He will have to quickly right his form if he hopes to be relevant on the final day of bracket action.
Ishii now has the opportunity to go on a shocking run and perhaps find his way to the G1 Climax 30 Finals.
