The marquee match of G1 Climax 30 Night 13 saw former five-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, G1 Climax 22 winner, and G1 Climax 24 winner and CHAOS member Kazuchika Okada face former NEVER Openweight Champion and Los Ingobernables de Japon (LIJ) member Shingo Takagi.
Okada came into the match with 8 points and coming off a victory against former NEVER Openweight Champion Jeff Cobb during G1 Climax 30 Night 11.
G1 Climax 30: Okada v Shingo
Shingo was able to defeat former IWGP Intercontinental Champion and G1 Climax 29 winner “Golden Star” Kota Ibushi on the same night. He came into the match with 6 points, needing a victory to keep his hopes of winning A Block and advancing to the G1 Climax 30 Finals alive.
With that knowledge, Shingo came out aggressive and dictated the match to Okada throughout its duration. While Okada was able to control the match for portions, he had issues dealing with the power and impact offense from Shingo.
Shingo was in his best form of the tournament, riding the momentum gained after defeating Ibushi several nights prior, but he couldn’t find the grip to deliver his Last of the Dragon technique to Okada.
Okada was able to gain the fall at 27 minutes and 45 seconds by Referee Stop after Shingo became unresponsive while trapped in the Money Clip technique. The victory moved Okada to 10 points with only matches against fellow CHAOS members former five-time NEVER Openweight Champion Tomohiro Ishii (October 13th) and current Revolution Pro Wrestling (RevPro) Undisputed British Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay (October 16th).
Despite being eliminated from winning A Block he has the chance to face NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki on October 16th and possibly earn a title opportunity. Suzuki defeated Shingo during his V4 defense of the NEVER Openweight Championship during Summer Struggle in Jingu on August 29, 2020.
