The NXT UK Heritage Cup’s first round got started last week when Noam Dar beat Alexander Wolfe to move on. We will know who he will face next after this match, as Flash Morgan Webster faces A-Kid, in another British Rounds Rules match.
Six rounds, three minutes each, best two out of three falls, and a 20 second break between each round. A KO ends a match on the spot, and each fall ends a round. It’s a classic format, and one that breeds great matches.
A-Kid & Webster are incredible wrestlers who should thrive in this style. Webster was training with Adrian Street during lockdown, hopefully having him come back better than ever on the technical side, perhaps matching A-Kid who previously beat Zack Sabre Jr. himself.
Flash Morgan Webster Proves He’s More Than A High Flier
The first round would start off with the expected feeling out process, with A-Kid grabbing the first hold with a side headlock. He’d move to the arm, and Webster used some speed to try and get out before ending up right back on the mat, with his arm trapped and a knee in his face.
Webster fought up and dropped A-Kid, if not just to show that he can do that. A-Kid one upped him on the mat in round one, but no falls were registered, but Webster hit a dropkick as we ended the round.
The round ending shut down the momentum of Webster, who would end up back on the mat as round two began. He’d managed to get A-Kid in a headscissors briefly, but he escaped and got a Bow & Arrow Hold, until Webster flopped off his knees into a pinfall, getting a one count.
They’d lock up, Webster got the wrist and took A-Kid down. He’d focus on the arm, but A-Kid didn’t let him keep it. A-Kid broke out and the pace of the match picked up very quickly, both men reaching their usual breakneck pace. They’d trade pinfall attempts, and Webster rolled up A-Kid for the first fall of the match, ending round two early.
A-Kid Evens The Score
Round three would begin, and A-Kid had to get aggressive. He’s one fall down, and that adds extra anxiety to a match like this. The game plan was still taking Webster to the ground and focusing on the arm, which hasn’t been working so far. A-Kid would get his arm caught, quickly break out and send Webster shoulder first into the mat.
Webster would get back up and grab submission to slow A-Kid down, but A-Kid broke free and used his agility to jump over Webster, make it to the corner and hit a crossbody for two. The fisherman suplex would be followed with a bridging pin, getting a two count again. Webster hit the Rude Boy Block moonsault, and the reverse rana as the round ended. A-Kid was saved by the bell, having twenty seconds to recover.
It wouldn’t be enough, as Webster started the round with a running knee strike for a two count. He’d go to the top rope, A-Kid intercepting and taking them both down with a top rope Spanish Fly, followed by the running single leg dropkick, getting him on the board with a pinfall.
Ending The Match With Seconds On The Clock
With the match now tied and just two rounds left, it might as well be sudden death. A-Kid would throw swift strikes at a woozy Webster, who tried his best to come back, but stiff strikes wouldn’t be enough. Webster got a Falcon Arrow, getting a two count, but was having issues with his left arm.
More stiff strikes would come from A-Kid, but a palm strike staggered him. Webster walked into a kick to the head, came back with a headbutt and when he went for a springboard, A-Kid ran in with a kick, falling to the outside. A suicide dive wiped A-Kid out, and he’d be thrown back into the ring.
Webster went for a swanton bomb, missed and A-Kid grabbed a cross armbreaker on the left arm. Webster would counter and end up in the omoplata, and be forced to tap with mere seconds left in the round.
A-Kid moves on to the semi-finals where he will face Noam Dar for a chance to vy for the Heritage Cup. Will A-Kid go all the way with his strikes and submissions? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
