For months now, WWE NXT has stayed in their home base of Full Sail University. This gave fans something cozy and familiar over the last few months. The crowd of WWE employees emulated the hot crowds Full Sail always brough, and this made NXT comfy. However, it’s a small venue and starting with NXT Takeover 31, things are going to change.
NXT Takeover 31 Brings NXT Back To WWE Performance Center
Many months ago, NXT ran a single episode from the WWE Performance Center, memorable due to a wild brawl between Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa that was arguably better than their ‘One Final Beat’ empty arena match. Now they’re heading back, starting with NXT Takeover 31. This is a welcome change, as the WWE Performance Center was a great venue before the WWE Thunderdome took over.
It also allows WWE to go live every week with NXT if they want to, where they previously were taping bi-weekly in Full Sail University. This would arguably be a bad move given the continued threat of COVID-19, but at least one half of Indus Sher can no longer spoil NXT Championship matches.
Regardless, this will give NXT a breath of fresh air, and WWE can go all out with building a beautiful set for NXT with it being on their own property. Plus, NXT Takeover 31 is in the same venue as Wrestlemania, that has to count for something, right?
205 Live Is Coming As Well
Last night’s episode of 205 Live was just an excellent recap of the history of Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott & NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar. This built up their match for NXT Takeover 31 well, but this was also due to the fact that 205 Live will no longer be shot following Smackdown Live. For the time being, it will be shot following NXT.
It’s unclear if this means 205 Live will start airing on Wednesday evenings, or remain in it’s late Friday night timeslot. NXT & 205 Live belong together, so hopefully this is the start of them working in sync. However, Wednesday nights are packed with enough wrestling as is, and that timeslot could be another deathblow to the always troubled brand.
